Liposuction - Reshape Your Way to Youthfulness

What is Liposuction?

A liposuction procedure is a less invasive cosmetic surgery that involves removing the excess fat deposits from your body using a suction device. This is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures worldwide that allows you to regain a slimmer, more youthful and attractive figure.

What happens in a Liposuction procedure?

A liposuction surgery is a minimally invasive body-contouring procedure that involves the removal of excess fat deposits from various parts of the body in order to restore your body shape, or to give a new and youthful body shape after a drastic weight-loss.
A liposuction involves the use of small and blunt-tipped tubes (cannula) that are fitted to a surgical vacuum device. The surgeon will require making tiny (keyhole) incisions on the skin of the body parts to be treated. These incisions are used as entry-points for the cannula to be inserted into the body till just under the skin, where it is moved towards the fat deposit sites.
The surgeon will gradually work over all the parts of the body (abdomen, upper arms, thighs, etc) with the vacuum cannula and remove the small amounts of fat deposit from these locations.

What are the types of Liposuction techniques?

Due to advances in medical and surgical science there have been new and innovative techniques discovered that have helped to make a liposuction procedure less painful and more safe and efficient.
These are the modern techniques applied in a liposuction procedure:
·         Tumescent liposuction – A local anesthetic is required before this surgery to numb the area of the body to be treated. The doctor will then inject an anesthetic compound into the fatty tissue before following it with a normal liposuction procedure.
·         Ultrasound-assisted liposuction – This liposuction technique uses ultrasound waves to liquefy the fat deposits under the skin. This helps to make it easier to be removed through a conventional liposuction procedure. This technique is most helpful in removing fat from the upper abdomen, back and sides.
·         Laser-assisted liposuction – This technique uses low-energy waves to liquefy the fat inside the skin which can then be easily removed with the help of a cannula.

Why is a Liposuction done?

A liposuction procedure is mainly performed to reshape various areas of your body. This is a purely cosmetic procedure and is not helpful in losing excess body-weight. This procedure is a targeted treatment method and is most successful in removing small fat deposits mostly seen in the outer thighs, hips, waist and back in men and women. Other parts such as face, neck, back, buttocks, abdomen, legs and upper arms are also treated with liposuction.

What are the risks associated with Liposuction?

There are very rare complications that might arise in very few cases, such as:
·         Temporary inflammation (swelling), soreness, bruising and numbness around the operated areas
·         Minor irritation and scarring at the incision site
·         Rippled/baggy skin over the treated area
There are also rare chances of:
·         Permanent skin color change
·         Uneven surface of skin over treat area
·         Nerve/skin damage around treated area
